The University of Georgia Cotton Physiology Program is located on the Tifton Campus in the heart of one of the most agriculturally diverse regions of the United States. Cotton, peanuts, vegetable crops, poultry, pine trees and even alligators are just a few of the agricultural commodities produced in South Georgia. The economic impact of cotton in Georgia is over $3 billion annually, which makes it the leading row crop in the state. Nationally, Georgia ranks second in terms of planted acres (approximately 1.3 million) and production (over 2 million bales annually).
The focus of our program is the discovery of new cotton crop physiological characteristics and the development of new production inputs and management practices that result in improved profitability of cotton in Georgia as well as the United States while maintaining the highest level of environmental stewardship.
